Ealing NEU Petition + Next Steps In campaign

Next Steps In Our Borough Wide Campaign

Towards the end of this term we will present this petition to Ealing Council. There will also be a MASS Rally where at least one member from every school must attend. Finally, all schools must hold a school NEU meeting and vote to support a motion backing this campaign.

By the start of the Summer Term if all this does not move Ealing Council & Ealing schools, then we will vote to escalate to the highest stage.

Petition Wording

Move up the main and upper pay scales every year automatically

The Government has said Performance Related Pay (PRP) is no longer a legal requirement. The headteacher unions and the NEU have written to all schools urging for the “immediate dropping of PRP” as it is “fundamentally unfair, contributes to the existing recruitment and retention problems and damages morale.” There is clear statistical evidence that shows PRP discriminates on gender and race. Too many teachers stay ‘stuck’ on M6

Support Staff Should Get Inner London Pay  Like Teachers.

Support staff only get Outer London Weighting whilst Teachers get Inner London Weighting. It is clearly wrong that those who are usually paid the least compared to teachers are financially penalised and discriminated against.

Support Staff Should Get Paid Religious Leave Like Teachers.

Support staff have significantly lower wages than teachers, yet they are usually only allowed unpaid leave for religious observance. (A big thank you to the schools that do allow support staff to have paid leave). Support staff in Ealing are more likely to have a minority faith. The NEU believes this to be both unfair and discriminatory.

Your Elected Rep & Local Officers Must Have Trade Union Time In Order To Support You When You Need It.

Your rep and local officers work long and hard for you. They need, as they are entitled to by law, trade union release time in their working week. Education remains in a poly-interlinked-crisis; funding, SEND, workload, low pay, recruitment and retention. We need our reps and officers even more now.

Little or zero engagement between Ealing and the NEU.

Recently, emails and requests for meetings are ignored, official meetings severely restricted as to what can be raised on your behalf.

Will You Stand Up Against Tommy Robinson Sat 26?

This demonstration is not just another demo. If we turn up with friends and family in large enough numbers, then we prevent future pogroms on a scale worse than what we saw during the summer, when far right thugs burned hotels with refugees in them shouting “Tommy Robinson” and attacked Mosques.

The far right in the UK are embolden by:

1) What they see in Europe and the real possibility that Trump will win in two weeks time.

2) Racist Farage winning 4 million votes = 14% of the vote and 5 MPs. (Lib Dems won 12% of the vote)

Coaches and trains from all over the UK have been booked. Its London though that must make up the largest percentage.

Will you Stand Up To Racism?

Ealing NEU members will meet at Ealing Broadway Tube Station at 10:30 am.

Ealing NEU Meeting – Tues 15th Oct 5:30 PM HCC W7 1PD

Moving up the pay scales no longer has to be tied to PRP – appraisal.
The DfE say PPA can be taken at home.
Find out how to make these happen in your school.

Approach your school rep and/or organise a school union meeting and pass this motion on ending PRP model-pay-policy-letter to HTs

  1. PRP and PPA – Since last year’s strikes, you can move up the pay scale automictically without appraisal. The DfE recommends that you can take your PPA time at home. Does your school do this?

Stop Fascist Tommy Robinson sat 27th July

After mobilising 5,000 on 1 June – the largest turnout for fascist Tommy Robinson since the battle to defeat his movement 2018/19 – he is calling his fascist, racist and far right supporters back to London on 27 July.

If you are around Sat 27th July, then please turn up. With; Farage an MP, Reform gaining 4,000,000 votes and Trump being favourite to win the election, Fascist Tommy Robinson is hoping to grow on the back of this. We will stop him together. We need a mass turnout of broad forces to unite against his hateful dangerous politics. Unions, politicians, faith groups, campaigns, activists… share widely – join us on 27 July to oppose him!
